CITY OF CLAYTON POLICE DEPARTMENT

PARIC was the construction manager on the complete renovation of the Clayton Police and Municipal Building. The original six-story building is approximately 75,000 sq. ft. and was built in 1952 and overlooks Shaw Park. Renovation included the preservation of some of the historical aspects of the Heritage Building including the main entry lobby, the building mail chute, the original fire standpipe, and historic elevator lobbies.

Renovations included all new windows, a new high efficiency HVAC system, and all new utility services. The new facility includes holding cells, offices, training rooms, a gym, traffic court, administrative offices, and off street parking for squad cars in the attached garage. A new drive-through sallyport was added for secure prisoner transfer. A backup generator and other emergency systems were installed to make the police department a Critical Operations Center in the event of a natural disaster or power failure.

The attached garage, which was also renovated, is now home to the state of Missouri’s largest solar panel array generating approximately 204 KWhrs/year and almost one third of the electricity needed for building operation. This project received LEED Platinum certification.
